Nitinol Micro-Braids for Neurovascular Interventions

Neurovascular Medicine

Neurovascular interventions are minimally-invasive radiological procedures performed inside the blood vessels of the head and neck. Surgical instruments and implantable devices must be miniscule in size and accurately dimensioned. Flexible with ability to be produced as small as a few hundred micrometers in size, biomedical textiles can be a critical component of many neurovascular medical device design requirements.  Braided constructs are perfectly suited for their ability to be designed to collapse and fit inside very small catheter systems.  Nitinol braids are often a preferred material because the wire can be extruded to diameters as small as 0.0005”.  Nitinol wire may also be produced having a core of radiopaque metal such as platinum, so it is visible under fluoroscope.

Some examples of important endovascular neurovascular, procedures include:

  • Carotid and Intracranial Stenting
  • Stroke Thrombolysis
  • Embolization
  • Intracranial Angioplasty
  • Aneurysm Therapy

US BioDesign is an industry leader in medical braiding technology and custom manufacture of braided nitinol tubular structures for neurovascular medicine. Some of our specialized medical braiding machines are unique in the medical industry.  With capabilities of working with specialty wire diameters as small as 0.0005” in cross section, and having equipment capabilities that include 288-carrier braiders, we often exceed the design expectations of even the most ambitious biomedical engineer!

Comprehensive Braiding Experience Leveraged by Medical Device Engineers

US BioDesign will collaborate closely with your engineering team, using our team's 100 years of medical textile experience to create custom braided structures that meet your exact specifications. We can start work from any stage in your project—sketches, blueprints, or prototypes—to develop interim prototypes and a final design that offers superior manufacturability and a winning design for your project team. We encourage formal, mutual Non-Disclosure Agreements, and guarantee strict confidentiality regarding all customer designs and product information.

With a focus on speed, innovation and cost efficiency US BioDesign can help you realize your goals for your next medical device development project
