Nitinol Micro-Braids for Neurovascular Interventions
Neurovascular interventions are minimally-invasive radiological procedures performed inside the blood vessels of the head and neck. Surgical instruments and implantable devices must be miniscule in size and accurately dimensioned. Flexible with ability to be produced as small as a few hundred micrometers in size, biomedical textiles can be a critical component of many neurovascular medical device design requirements. Braided constructs are perfectly suited for their ability to be designed to collapse and fit inside very small catheter systems. Nitinol braids are often a preferred material because the wire can be extruded to diameters as small as 0.0005”. Nitinol wire may also be produced having a core of radiopaque metal such as platinum, so it is visible under fluoroscope.
